All Signs
Living here in this Western world, we are taught that our dreams are just a product of our unconscious fears and desires. We are taught that dreams mean nothing; that upon waking we should forget them, especially if they were the nightmarish type, buck up and continue on with our day.
Sure, we obsess sometimes: we tell our dreams to others who will listen and we ponder over symbols and ask ourselves, “What could this mean?” We have an inner desire for our dreams to mean something, for them to be the oracle we are so missing in our lives, that they will tell us the meaning of our existence, or whether or not we are on the right path. On social media outlets we pass around memes and proverbs stating things like: “The world needs more dreamers”. But this questing is hollow because even with these tentative, and superficial, wonderings we still go back to our everyday lives believing that logic dictates that dreams can’t possibly have any effect on this everyday reality.
However, there are many indigenous cultures around the world whose cosmology and mythology are closely linked to, if not stemming from, the dream world. For the Yenyuwa in Australia, the world came into being through dreaming. It is through passing down the stories of the dreaming of the land that the younger generations learn to care for the land and thus the seasons remain in balance. For these people, the dream world is an extension of their everyday reality. To be truly in balance within themselves and within their surroundings, they feel they must pay attention and listen to their dreams, and pass the stories along to the next generation (Moriarty, Ros. Listening to Country: 2010).
The Beaver Indians in north-eastern B.C., have dream maps that were drawn by their ancestors and are kept safe by their descendants, or those who know how to listen to power. These maps help guide the way for those who have passed to the other side. The maps help these souls find their way home to the Creator or to the source of existence. These dream maps are also linked to the land as the Beaver believe that there are several layers to existence, beyond that of this 3D reality (Brody, Hugh. Maps and Dreams: 2004).
So who’s to say that these people are wrong? Is it just another stereotype, or product of our Western beliefs, to say that the world, as these people experience it, is not possible?
I’m willing to bet that everyone who reads these words and follows these horoscopes has at one time in their life had a dream that either caused them a moment of déja vu, or they have woken up from knowing that they were being taught something by spirit, but they just couldn’t hold onto the knowing and so it faded away.
Even if you think, “Nah, I’ve never experienced that,” I don’t believe you. I’ve had too many of these kinds of dreams to buy into that story. I know when my dreaming self is trying to tell me something or is giving me information that I asked for, even prayed for. I know it because there is a different quality to the dream. It is more lucid, it stays with me in a way that other dreams do not, and I feel their magic and how they connect me to the All That Is, or the universe, or whatever you want to call it.
I’m willing to bet that somewhere in the near future, science is going make new discoveries about how the dream world connects us as a species, as well as how dreams are connected to our consciousness, our bodies, and our souls/spirits/selves. I remember hearing a story on the CBC about the science of dreaming and that dream scientists have discovered that as a collective, we dream in certain themes en mass, such as end-of-the-world scenarios.
Now is a time to pay attention to our dreams. Our dreams connect us to each other, to the universe, and to the tactile world in ways that cannot yet be explained by modern science. But perhaps indigenous cultures can help us understand this connectedness, if we are open.
Our dreams are bringing us information that will help with choosing a career, how to deal with pain and sorrow, how to respond to loved ones and family issues, and answer questions about who we are and what we are here on this planet to do. Take time to remember your dreams, write them down, and share them with loved ones. Trust yourself, and above all lose any arrogant assumption that we have any idea at all how this universe works.
Aries – Mar. 21 to Apr. 19
What is the core of your experience of life right now? How do you perceive the world? Are you positive and optimistic, grateful for what you have and those you know, or do you feel like the world is against you, that you are tired and overwhelmed and things are spiraling out of control? If it’s the latter, you might want to try to remember that you are the creator of your own reality. If you really want to shine and have the world see you for the brilliance that you are, you are going to have to show the world that person. Nobody attains their goals, or true happiness, without a lot of hard work. There are bumps along the way. So, even if things really are hard right now: you’re behind on bills, you are over worked, or you are tired all the time, try to access the person within that still houses your inner aspirations. Nurture that self and try to find little ways in which you can bring that self into being more present in your everyday reality.
Taurus – Apr. 20 to May 20
Have you ever seen video, or perhaps read about, the different tidal currents that exist within the Earth’s oceans? For example, in all oceans there are northern, equatorial, and southern currents. All of these currents run in opposite directions, moving in a circular pattern as the water cools and warms at different times of the year. Where these currents pass each other it’s like two opposing lanes of traffic. On one side of a transparent line the water can be going 10 knots/hour east, and on the other it can be going 20 knots/hour west. I point this out because how you are experiencing your life is very much akin to a fish slipping from one current to another. You need to learn how to go with the flow, no matter which side of the line you are on, and have fun doing so. Lose expectations and let the universe, fate, whatever you want to call it, guide you. All roads lead home.
Gemini – May 21 to Jun. 20
Do you want to transform your life? Well, do you? I want you to really think about this question. For far too long you have sat on the fence, waiting for something to happen, waiting for the heavens to open up and the universe to smile upon you and make everything OK. Well, sitting and waiting will get you nowhere. What you need to do, what is required of you in order for you to move forward, is that you must find what you are passionate about, what truly matters to you, and act from there. Once you have found that passion and decided to engage with it, things will change and with more speed, magic, and unbounded possibilities than you can imagine. The world awaits, but only if you move out of self-indulgence and into action.
Cancer – Jun. 21 to Jul. 22
Like a snake shedding its skin, you are going through a phase of re-birth at this time. The old you is being stripped away to make room for the new, improved, and more whole and complete you. This isn’t going to be an easy ride. You will most likely kick and scream in protest along the way. This is because you are attached to the old you, you define yourself by its parameters, patterns, likes, and dislikes. At the same time you are afraid of change because you are afraid that the world will not accept you for who you really are. Well, get over it. Unless you want to stay static and not embrace the adventure that awaits you, you will have to challenge yourself to let go. Here’s a tip that might help you deal with this change: meditate on loving yourself and not thinking about what others think of you. Go inward and discover yourself, be really and truly honest about what you find there, the good and the bad. And lastly, forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made; don’t look back, look ahead.
Leo – Jul. 23 to Aug. 22
The key to success for you right now is to integrate all of the different aspects, or personalities, of who you are. This might sound easy, but I assure you that it’s not. It’s not easy because there are many aspects of yourself that you are either in denial of, or that you feel are merely the expectations of others “cramping your style”. I would just like to remind you that you were born into this world through the parents you have, for a reason. Everyone you have met in your life, you have also met for a reason. These people are your mirror, they force you to face and accept your own lessons, your own beauty, and your quirks. Look into the mirror and ask the reflection: what are you here to teach me? What part of myself are you helping me to face, love, and integrate into the wholeness that is me?
Virgo – Aug. 23 to Sept. 22
Strength: where are you going to find the strength you need to tackle the projects you have taken on? That’s the question that’s most prominent in your mind these days, isn’t it? It’s not that you don’t want to do the work or that you don’t like the projects you’ve taken on, it’s just that you’re realizing that the work load is a little on the heavy side (or maybe a lot). Well, I almost hate to tell you this, but right now your strength lies in your ability to creatively deal with your to-do list. But that’s not the whole story. You also need to access this creativity in terms of the projects themselves. Creativity, as defined by Dictionary.com, is “the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.” Take this definition to heart, dear Virgo, for the strength you seek lies in your ability to truly embrace it.
Libra – Sept. 23 to Oct. 22
You think you have control, but deep down inside you feel more like your life is so out of your control that it’s sending you into panic mode. What you want, what you aspire to, feels unattainable, doesn’t it? In order to take back control of your life, you need to do one simple thing: pretend that you can. In other words, pretend intend. Even if you feel like you can’t, like you don’t have the personal power, let yourself pretend that you already have taken back control. Imagine the life you want, imagine that you can take the steps required to make this life. Pretend you have the fortitude to tackle the obstacles and face your fears in order to create something new. In the end, you just might find that you have accomplished what you set out to do, and it wasn’t even all that hard.
Scorpio – Oct. 23 to Nov. 21
The harmony you seek can’t be found by responding to life with the same old conditioned responses. You may think you’re dealing with things in a creative manner—thinking outside the box and all that—but if you are not experiencing a settling, grounding, harmonious sense of self, then you are not looking closely enough at your patterned responses. Do not respond to should, have to, must. Doing so means that you are reacting to the world the way you have been conditioned to do so. Act from your heart, it never lies. Act from your gut, for it is the centre of your true being and is the place where your soul has the most access to you. Besides, by doing so you know that you are not hurting anyone, for your being is not malicious and has the best interest of all those you love at its core.
Sagittarius – Nov. 22 to Dec. 21
Things are happening fast and furious for you these days. Sometimes you feel as though you are not even able to come up for air before there is something else added to your plate. This isn’t a bad thing though, so try to remember that. You asked for this. You asked for the universe to amp-up the voltage, to bring you what you need, to challenge you in new and exciting ways, and that’s exactly what’s going on. So roll with the punches and face the challenges head on. Let life be exciting and learn to let go of how you think it “should be”. In six months so many changes will have taken place that you won’t even remember how overwhelmed you feel right now. Instead you will feel pride in all that you have accomplished accompanied by a grand sense of fulfillment. That is, if you are able to take a deep breath and ride the wave.
Capricorn – Dec. 22 to Jan. 19
Wow, Capricorn! Are you in tune with yourself, or what? If you don’t feel “in tune”, I’d say it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. Want magic in your life? Demand it. Want change to occur? Demand it. Want love and romance and passion? Demand it. But be careful of what you ask for, because the universe is listening very close to everything you intend, think, and feel at this time. Make sure your intent is in alignment and that you are not negating any part of yourself. Now is a good time to start projects, make long-term plans, and reach for the stars, but if there are parts of yourself that are in denial, or if your intent is skewed by this denial, what you receive will be off target and you will find yourself being disappointed.
Aquarius – Jan. 20 to Feb. 18
When we learn to feel and have compassion for others’ emotions, it can often set us a little off kilter because suddenly we realize that what we do and how we express ourselves affects those we love. This is what you are going through at this time, Aquarius. You’re having trouble knowing which direction to go in and how to respond to triggering issues because you can’t ignore the fact that you can feel, and that you actually care, about what others are going through. This is a new thing for you, whether you want to admit it or not. You’re not very good at having compassion and understanding, and so you feel a bit blindsided. But don’t worry, this is all for the best, and the indecisiveness you feel right now is actually a good thing. It means that you are taking into account what others need when making decisions, and I guarantee you will benefit from the results later on.
Pisces – Feb. 19 to Mar. 20
Um, pretend I’m not the messenger with this horoscope, OK? I just don’t want you to shoot me when you realize what I’m about to tell you. You’ve been having a hard time deciding which direction to go in, or in other words, you’re having a hard time jumping into the waters of whatever change you are coming face-to-face with. You keep trucking along, doing what you have to, but you feel a lack of enthusiasm due to confusion and self-doubt. Am I right? Well, the bad news is, you are going to have to jump in. You are going to have to make a decision to pull yourself out of your funk and settle for the fact that no-one is going to do it for you. No magic wand is going to tap you on the head and suddenly you will know what to do. I know. Frustrating, isn’t it? The good news is that once you make the decision a whole new world of possibilities will open up and you will be refueled by passion, intention, and strength.
