Tamu Miles

Hello, and welcome.

My name is Tamu. I am an astrologer, yoga instructor, writer, and business owner living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

I have been interested in astrology, tarot, and all things metaphysical since I was a child living on Lasqueti Island, off the coast of BC. My mother, aRA, was what could be called a “trance channel.” She was interested in everything spiritual as long as it wasn’t mainstream religion. My siblings and I were raised in a rustic environment: no electricity, dirt roads, and wood-stoves. Because of this, I grew up with a deep respect for the earth and a fascination with the endless possibilities of the universe and the workings and affect of the soul upon and within the human body.

For many years my mother and I worked together developing a New Age (ish) website called “The Spaces Between Things.” The development of the website was in conjunction with giving readings – using a “Universal Oracle” game that aRA had developed – reading tarot and the I Ching, and facilitating small healing groups. While travelling down the west coast of the U.S. and operating on a shoestring budget (often we didn’t have gas or food money and had no idea where we were going to sleep), I learned about who I was as a spiritual being and developed my skills as a “psychic” reader using the Voyager Tarot deck by James Wanless.

Since those days my life has changed dramatically. As was stated above I went back to school, but I also focused on raising my kids and, and through a series of synchronistic events, re-discovered the love of my life who is now my husband. My day-to-day has been much more practically based and I have become too old (as far as I’m concerned – many would argue otherwise) to go galivanting around without a penny to my name. But I have never lost the fascination I had with the universe and the Self or spirit that lives within us all (in whatever form we happen to perceive it) that my mother helped to cultivated within me as a child.

As a result, and through the process of attaining a Creative Writing degree, I began writing horoscopes for the university press newspaper. These horoscopes, as you may have guessed, are not generated in the traditional manner. Instead of consulting star charts and tracking the planets, I throw tarot cards to attain the bi-weekly readings for each sign. This process combines what I know about astrology and what I have learned about “reading” others and giving them a reflection of themselves from the perspective of spirit. Every so often I consult a good friend of mine who is well versed in the workings of astrology and how the signs are archetypically expressed through the human ego.

These horoscopes, Navigating the Stars, are a labour of love. I have fun with them. And I am constantly surprised and in gratitude for how accurate people feel them to be. I welcome your feedback and discussion as I hope this blog can become a forum for a larger discussion about who we perceive ourselves to be as spiritual beings, and what being spiritual means in this day and age.

Are you interested in yoga? If so, head on over to the Mumma Magma Yoga website and check out my online and in person classes. I’d love to see you there!

  1. I’m so glad you are doing this site. Reading your “About” is a trip down memory lane. I stopped writing my astrology column last year as I found it harder and harder to find the energy window, at 65, to do. Now I can read yours.

Thanks so much, Barbara! Yeah, it was interesting thinking about my education as a writer of horoscopes and a reader of tarot cards. At times I really miss the kind of high-adventure spiritual work that was always so synonymous with Mom. lol

A very insightful and inspiring read unlike Pop Astrology Columns. Intention…Intuition and Imagination make a gifted writer. Gratitude…

Thank you, Virgo Bro! I strive not to emulate the many, as you say, pop astrology columns that are out there, so I’m glad I’ve hit the mark for you. 🙂

Your soul-led honest approach to writing predictions is refreshing and much needed away from the fluff and generalisations. Keep writing, keep sensing, keep guiding..it is wonderful to read, so happy I found your blog!
